A FEW WORDS

Freya Josephine Hollick releases the brand-new single ‘Me & Mine’ from her long-awaited 3rd album ‘The Real World’, which will be released on September 30th 2022.

A hooky, guitar driven romp thanks to the legendary Greg Leisz (Clapton, Browne, et al.) along with Aussie gunslingers Tommy Brooks and Louie King, ‘Me & Mine’ is wrapped in a gorgeous string arrangement by James Gilligan. Venturing into 70s ‘countrypolitan’ territory, the track reveals itself over a glorious three and a half minutes, inviting repeated spins to gather all that has been carefully placed on offer.

The opening salvo “Well I spend half my time, hating half of me, that’s mine, and the rest I spend on tears over you.” reflects the sharpened quill that Freya has developed over time as part of her formidable songwriting arsenal.

Written at the time when Trump was elected to office, ‘Me & Mine’ fixes on fortitude in the face of political ineptitude, where endless societal slings and arrows aren’t nearly enough to fracture a hard-won resolve.

Freya Josephine Hollick says: “Me & Mine was written as a call to arms of all the misfits, the ousted, those who live on the fringes of society trying to make ends meet under an outdated capitalist regime. For all my artist friends, for all those pressed under the thumb of those that seek to eradicate originality. A boogie for the underdog.”

A show of strength from deep within a weathered heart, taking power from the commitment to the self-sufficiency of a community pressed under the thumb of authoritarian leadership, the refusal to carry the weight of colonialism and oppression forward.

The gestation of Freya’s new album ‘The Real World’ was buffeted by the ebbs and flows of a tumultuous three years, constantly testing the artist’s resolve.

After recording in Joshua Tree with Lucinda William’s Buick 6, the sessions were brought back and shaped along with her Australian band along with producer Roger Bergodaz delivering four pandemic sustaining singles including ‘Nobody’s No Better Than No One’, ‘Impossible To Love’, ‘The Real World’ and ‘Vivian, June, Dolly & Jolene’, all of which received official national radio additions.

In the background, label changes, a pivot to a new management and personal health and heart bound struggles were weathered, ultimately delivering new determination and a fresh team brimming with belief and positivity. That belief reflected in the new global arrangement with Cheersquad Records & Tapes helmed by industry stalwart Roderick “Wally” Kempton, a true believer and an ally in trusting wholly in the energy of Hollick’s art.

“Me & Mine just happens to be my favourite song from the album, an album that is beyond world-class, and I’m pretty bloody rapt to have our logo on there! Looking forward to working hard with and for the prodigious talent who is Freya Josephine Hollick” – Wally Kempton
