Naarm/Melbourne-based songwriter Al Matcott today shares the new single ‘Everyone’s Gonna Let You Down’, the opening track from his forthcoming debut album ‘Summer’s Coming‘ out on 3 November on Cheersquad Records and Tapes.

‘Everyone’s Gonna Let You Down’ shifts through different dynamics in the one song, opening with skuzzy guitars, bridging softer moments that make way for a glimmering, upbeat keyboard interlude, before building back up to full blown garage-rock chaos. The rollicking, lively opening track to Summer’s Coming is a masterful example of what Al Matcott does best – balancing weighted lyrical content with light and brightly-crafted soundbeds.

‘Everyone’s Gonna Let You Down’ was born in a time when Matcott was considering whether or not to have children in the face of the climate crisis, he shares, “I have pretty terrible climate anxiety. I can only imagine how much worse it would be if I were a kid growing up now, imagining what things are going to look like in 2100.  This song came from thinking about that. It’s intended as a mission statement. At times it’s a feral, caterwauling steam train, other times it’s a Velvet Underground vamp, other times it’s an emo singalong. Climate anxiety chaos singalong. Uplifting stuff.”
